Itinerary
Upon arrival at Guwahati Airport or Railway Station, you will be warmly received by our representative. Begin your scenic drive towards Cherrapunji, one of the wettest places on Earth. En route, enjoy a photo stop at the picturesque Umiam Lake (Barapani) and explore the stunning Elephant Falls near Shillong. On reaching Cherrapunji, check in to your hotel and relax. Overnight stay at a hotel in Cherrapunji.
Start your day early at 6:00 AM for an adventurous trek to the famous Double Decker Living Root Bridge, one of Meghalaya’s most iconic and offbeat attractions. Located deep within the lush tropical forests of Nongriat Village, the trek begins from Tyrna Village, just 10 km from Sohra (Cherrapunji). This scenic trail involves descending approximately 3,000 stone steps through dense greenery, hanging bridges, and natural streams. A local guide is recommended for the trek (guide charges not included). The round trip to the Double Decker Bridge takes around 5 to 6 hours to complete.
Adventurous travelers can further extend the hike with an additional 60-minute trek to Rainbow Falls, known for its crystal-clear blue waters and stunning natural beauty. Return to Cherrapunji by evening. Overnight stay at your hotel in Cherrapunji.
After breakfast, begin your journey to Mawlynnong Village, famously known as the "Cleanest Village in Asia" (awarded in 2003). Take a peaceful walk through the beautifully maintained village, experiencing its clean surroundings and vibrant Khasi culture. Visit popular attractions like the Balancing Rock, the scenic Sky Viewpoint (Nohwet Viewpoint) offering panoramic views of the Bangladesh plains, and the longest living root bridge in the area. Relish an authentic Khasi lunch prepared by locals.
Next, proceed to Dawki, a serene border town nestled between India and Bangladesh, known for its hidden beauty. On arrival, visit the breathtaking Umngot River, famous for its crystal-clear waters, often regarded as one of the cleanest rivers in India. You can enjoy boating on the Umngot River (at an additional cost) and capture stunning photographs of the transparent waters.
Later, drive to Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya. Overnight stay at a hotel in Shillong.
After breakfast, check out from your hotel in Shillong and drive back to Guwahati, the gateway to Northeast India. Upon arrival, if time permits, enjoy local shopping at famous markets like Paltan Bazaar or Fancy Bazaar, where you can shop for traditional handicrafts, souvenirs, and local Assamese products.
Later, you will be dropped off at Guwahati Airport or Railway Station for your onward journey. Your 4-day Meghalaya tour concludes with beautiful memories of Shillong, Cherrapunji, Mawlynnong, and Dawki.
